Celebrating connection through many languages
April is Language Access Month in Highline Public Schools—a time to celebrate the many languages spoken by our families and our shared commitment to making sure everyone can access information, services, and learning. Language access strengthens partnerships between families and schools and helps ensure every family can fully engage in their child’s education. From interpretation at school meetings to translated district communications, these services help families participate in important conversations about learning, school programs, and district updates.
Families in Highline represent 89 languages. During the 2024–25 school year, Highline supported families with more than 2,400 interpretation requests, 5,000 on-demand interpretation phone calls, and written translations in our most-requested languages, including Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, Amharic, Oromo, and Dari.
These numbers reflect the ongoing work to make our schools more welcoming, inclusive, and connected. We are grateful to the families, staff, and interpreters who make this work possible every day.
