Construction Progress
Progress at the new Evergreen High School is on track for starting school in September, with significant progress made in December and January. The project remains on a tight schedule due to last year's vandalism but is expected to open on time and within budget.
Enjoy new aerial photos and an on-site photo tour. Check out the colorful acoustical panel design on the gym walls, where spaces are reserved to add salvaged wood from the existing gym bleachers.
In the classroom building on the north:
-
Overhead HVAC, lighting, and interior glass installations continue.
-
Hallway walls are painted.
-
Ceiling grids are being installed in classrooms.
-
Carpet or tile, whiteboards and cabinets have been installed in some classrooms
- Water damage repair from the vandalism that occurred in May 2024 is ongoing, following the recovery timeline shared in September.
In the activities building on the south:
- Locker rooms are taking shape with storage units installed.
- Window installation is wrapping up and hallway cabinetry is almost complete.
- Overhead kitchen equipment is installed.
-
The drywall and painting in the auditorium are nearly finished.
-
Gym floors are being sanded and sealed. Sound absorption units in school colors have been installed on the walls, with spaces left in each repeating section to add planks of salvaged wood from the existing gym bleacher seats.
On-site, concrete and storm drain work is progressing. Walkways and the bus loop on the east side of the building are now more defined by concrete work. Crews are installing sidewalks and pathways in the courtyard area between the two main buildings, overlooked by the pedestrian bridge that connects the activities building and the classroom building.
Next Steps
Upcoming work includes:
- Finishing the repairs in the classroom building.
- Continuing to install final floor, wall and ceiling finish treatments and cabinetry in both buildings.
- Installing the floor-mounted kitchen equipment.
- Completing the concrete, and later, the landscaping on site.
- With the arrival of our main electrical switchgear this week, the electrical subcontractor is working to get the new school ready for permanent power energization by Seattle City Light in early March. This will kick off the commissioning process for both buildings. Commissioning is a quality assurance process to verify and document the performance of building systems.
- Baseball and softball fields are set for completion in August 2026, following demolition of the existing school buildings, which is expected to start this summer.
