We are shifting the Vietnamese Dual Language (VDL) Program at Evergreen High School due to limited student interest. Starting in the 2024-25 school year, the VDL program at our school will not include a Vietnamese Language Arts class. Next year’s projected class size is below a sustainable class size to continue offering the course.
In the future, we are planning on developing a College in the High School (CiHS) pathway that aligns with our VDL pathway. CiHS programs provide college-level academic courses in high schools. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit through the program. This shift aligns with our Spanish Dual Language program which already has a CiHS program through Eastern Washington University and Bellevue College in our Chicano Studies, United State History and Spanish Language series courses.
We are working to identify a college partner for our VDL program, and will keep you updated on our progress.
To support students in developing their Vietnamese language skills, we will also be offering the following opportunities for students next school year:

Students in 9th and 10th grade will continue to access Algebra 1 and Geometry in Vietnamese.

Students in 9th-11th grade will be able to join a Vietnamese-focused advisory.

Students will have access to a new Vietnamese Language and Culture Club.
We are also seeking additional community support and engagement opportunities to continue our Tet New Years traditions and celebrations, and other opportunities for students.
